If you have decided to get into motor sports, you will want to make sure that you have all of the gear and accessories that you need. I am not some kind of expert but I do have some experience of taking part in various motor sports such as track racing in cars and high-speed sailing in a powerboat. My girlfriend introduced me to these activities and I suddenly realised what fun it was when I had a go. It didn't matter that I wasn't very good. I hope you like my blog and that it inspires you to get out there and have some fun.

A Beginner's Guide On How To Choose A Motorcycle Model

Jeffrey Gregory

When buying motorcycles, new buyers are often conflicted over which model they should purchase. Below is a guide with some tips on the factors you should consider when choosing one model over the other.

Intended Use Of The Bike

Each bike model is designed to serve a specific need. Therefore, you should purchase a bike that meets your needs. Below are some common types of motorcycles to choose from:

  • Standard bikes are designed to be used on the tarmac. They have a comfortable seat and moderate power to ensure you have an easy time riding through traffic.
  • Sports bikes have a streamlined design to reduce drag as you ride the bike. These motorcycles will have powerful engines and can achieve optimum speeds within a few seconds.
  • Dirt bikes are for motocross enthusiasts that enjoy off-road riding. These bikes are not road legal. Go for a dual-sport bike if you want a bike to ride on the tarmac and off-road.
  • Touring bikes are best suited for long-distance trips. They have a comfortable seat, ample luggage space and a large fuel tank.

Features Of The Bike

What features do you need on the bike? One of your concerns would be the engine capacity of the bike. Typically, a larger engine produces more horsepower, allowing you to cover steep slopes and enjoy high speeds. New riders would be concerned about the bike's gear ratio. Typically, they will opt for bikes with a long gear ratio. It prevents them from changing gears every few minutes. On the other hand, experienced riders could opt for a short gear ratio to ensure they attain high speeds in a short while. If you intend to cover long distances with the bike, you should check the size of its fuel tank and the fuel consumption. Other critical bike features include braking, suspension and accessories such as digital speedometers.

Pricing And Resale Value

The bikes pricing will be determined by its year of manufacturer and its features. Therefore, you should expect to pay more for recent models with advanced features. If you are worried about the price, purchase your preferred model a few weeks before or after the release of a new model. Most dealers will give discounts to make room for the new model. Used bikes and classic motorcycles are your best bet if you are worried about your bike's resale value. The depreciation rate of a used bike is low if you keep it in excellent condition. On the other hand, classic bikes will appreciate over the years.
